Remote Desktop Connection

By kaypaul ·
I am able to use remote desktop connection to access my remote server on W2K. But how can I setup so that I can cut and paste between the remote server and my desktop(XP)?

Unfortunately you can't copy and paste files directly from the remote desktop window to your local environment, although you can copy and paste text from open documents. However there is a way round using explorer.

Select Start, Run... and enter the IP address of your remote server in the form \\aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd\C$. The C$ represents the drive your wish to access, so you may need to use D, E, F or whatever. This will open an explorer window for the root directory of the selected drive on your server. From there you can navigate through the folders to the files you want and then copy and paste them to another explorer window or your desktop.

It would just be easier to map a network drive to your pc... I've not heard of this being possible with Remote desktop but.. who knows....

You can make your local drives accessible from the desktop you are remotely connecting to. On the remote, start up Remote Desktop Connection. Click on OPTIONS,then click on the Local Resources tab. There are 3 check boxes where you can select local (meaning your own pc) connections. If you check DISK DRIVES, your own drives will be available in Explorer and you can copy and paste files from there.

I appreciate, if you could provide me more specific steps to do this.

I needs to do this at the remote server itself or from my desktop?
