Remote Desktop Connection not working

By dliby ·
I have remote desktop connection working on Windows XP and Windows 2000 Pro workstations.
A couple of the W2k worksations will allow me to remote connect out to other workstations, but I cannot connect into them. I get a message that remote connection may not be enabled. I am not sure where to look for troubleshooting.

You cannot remote connect into a W2k machine. The service is not available...only XP has that option.

EDIT: just to clear up my comment, you can remote connect to a W2K server that has terminal service enabled, W2K workstation does not have the option. You would have to install VNC server or some other client to do this on W2K workstation.

hi friend,
technically win 2000 does not allow you to connect to it via remote desktop though you can connect from it to win xp pro or to some terminal servers i.e win 2003 server (with terminal services installed). if you need to connect to this PCs(via RDP) then you should consider upgrading them to windows xp pro.

Actually, I have a feeling that you can connect to a W2K desktop machine using RDP. I've never done it, but back in the day when I was researching this stuff, I think I read an MS article on installing RDP to work through IIS....

Google remote desktop through IIS. You'll find an MS page for downloading remote desktop web connection for windows 2003 server.
It appears that this can be installed on any OS that runs IIS....
But - I was wrong - it's not RDP that connects to it - it's http that offers similar functionality to the RDP client...

Anyway, hope this helps...

The problem is you are not running TightVnc or preferably Nx . Nx is the preferred solution ,
This will solve any remote desktop issue you have.
