Remote Desktop Sound – Windows Vista to Windows XP

by rawilcox30 . Updated 18 years, 1 month ago

Hey,
I have an issue getting sound from a remote desktop connection. I can connect just fine and if I chose bring sound to this computer I notice the sound driver is “Remote Playback”. Whenever I try to play a mp3 (I have also tried .avi, .wmv) file it doesn’t play using Winamp, Helium, and Windows Media Player. Winamp and Helium just won’t play anything, click play and nothing happens, doesn’t start scrolling through teh song or anything. WMP pops up an error “Windows Media player encounter a problem while playing the file….”

If I choose leave sound, I see my normal audio driver installed and helium, winamp, WMP all play fine. Well fine except I can’t hear it over here. =]

I searched around a lot for this issue and have yet to see an answer that some claimed worked and/or that I could get working.

I’m using Vista x64 at home (computer I’m remoting into) and XP Pro at Work (coputer I’m remoting from). I have remoted to other computers from my office PC as well as I have remoted to my office from home.

Hope you can help!! Thanks.
