Remote Help Desk

Well, if all the PCs are running TCP/IP, best thing is VNC, free download (or someone will email you if you ask!).

Run the "server" from startup on all PCs, then run the viewer on another PC to access/admin the ones you want. Can access via IP address or DNS name. I use it here at home to snoop on my sons' pc in another room, and it's OK. Used it in the past via dialup (WAN speed) link from home to work.

Good luck.

Of course, there's lots of proprietary software out there if your IT management thinks that you need to pay for software - remotely possible, PC anywhere, etc etc.

Other comments from others out there?

Free utility for remote Admin

by dsweatt In reply to Remote Help Desk

If you want a free solution you may want to check out VNC. This is a remote control utility developed by AT&T for their own use & is freely downloadable. Though it is password protected, it's very easy to write a simple script to change the passwordon the remote machine, so security & in-appropriate use are serious issues.
