What exactly are your trying to configure on the client. This might give us some idea on how to answer you.

The basic answer is to login as administrator and configure as needed.

ok, if you used a RIS server on the domain, the domain security policy [as well as computer based group policy]is automatically propogated to the new client computer. GP's for uses won't take effect until a user logs in.

Service packs, patches hotfixes are deployed by whatever method has been decided upon to deploy them e.g. Windows Updates Service, automatic Windows Update, System Management Server, blah blah.

As the others have said, we need more info. Are you just tryuing to get to one or two systems? Are you trying to automate updates? Are these clients XP or 2000?
You can use SUS/WUS for the updates, Remote desktop or UltraVNC for remote access, and Group Policies to secure the systems and launch login scripts for tasks such as printer installs and mapped drives.
