Remote Network set-up

By dave.raj ·
Hi, I have a sort of a complex problem. We have a off site office which has 3 Pc's and via a router they are connected to our server which is in a different office. Now when I try to log onto these three machines it says no network resources are available. But when I ping to the server or when I ping from the server to the three machines, I can see all the machines. So when I log in why aren't the network resources available. Can someone pls help.
Cheers:-)
Dave

Remote Network set-up

Configure WINS or LMHOSTS on these machines. When you tiy to connect to any network resource by NetBIOS name your computer sends broadcast trying to detect which IP address is associated with this computer name. But since you have router and anothersubnet your broadcasts does not reach remote resources and nobody can answer. If you will configure WINS server your machine will send requests to specific server (which IP address it knows) and will get IP address. Less prefered solution is in creating LMHOSTS file where you will associate IP address and ComputerName. You can use "#PRE" keyword to load this table to computers memory during bootup and "#DOM" keyword to define your Domain Controller (if in use).

Good luck.
