remote office needs access to the database

I’m sure this has been answered millions of times, but I can’t find what I’m looking for. I have a doctor who is running a program called amazing charts. It is what his office uses for patient documentation. In his office hteir is a server 2003 and 2 laptops with XP pro and 2 desktops with XP pro. Each computer has an application that runs on the local machine and uses a common database on the server. I have the ability to set the path to the database to whatever I need. Everything works great, but now the doctor wants to go to the next town over 1/2 day each week. I have DSL at each location. He has a desktop there and wants to take the 2 laptops over there and log back into the main office server and database. I have tried gotomypc.com and it works, but only 1 user at a time by remote desktop. I looked at VPN, but the dialup confuses me I don’t readily have access to phone line for each computer. I need someway for the remote office to be able to access that database at the main office. Thanks in advance for any help.
