Remote Procedure Call

By D.H. Cesare ·
Using Windows XP Pro, when I'm online I get a popup box saying it's going to shut the system down in 60 seconds. And it does. There's a red shutdown button on the left side of the popup window and the normal 'X'in the upper right corner, but neither one are functional.
My question is, what's causeing the RPC:
http://wombat.doc.ic.ac.uk/foldoc/foldoc.cgi?query=RPC&action=Search
box to popup and what do I do to stop this from happening?
Thank you for your time and trouble.

you have the blaster worm. suggest you visit www.symantec.com and download free removal tool. then update your anti-virus and scan cause you have other stuff also probably. but first, get all Critical updates applied (after blaster removal)

Run shutdown -a to stop the countdown to shutdown.
Download the RPC patch from Microsoft; install it. Then Remove the virus using the symantec tool or Mcafee's Stinger tool.

By Installing the patch first you will save yourself the confusion of having the machine be reinfected before you get the patch installed.
