Are you trying to run a windows-capable script on the remote XP box?

See the guides at http://www.winguides.com/scripting/

Not with ftp. You should use rsh which is built-in XP to do a remote shell on the Sun box.

As you can probably tell I'm a newbie at this. At the moment I have to connect to the Sunos machine using ftp. So how can I make the connection and then use rsh to run the remote script on the sunos machine. Cheers

YMMV,

doest the sunos allow ftp accecss..?
and even rsh access?

or just ssh...., in the last case things get
more trivial.
ssh is a secure mechanism compared to rsh.
but it also allows for the scp protocol
that allows you to copy files to a remote system
along the same secure mechanisms.

rsh and ftp should be banned for exposing
passwords or leaving gaping security holes....

The exact answer BTW is:

ftp put you r file on the remote machine and then call rsh for the right account and path to get it executed.

for this the ftp daemon and the rsh daemon should be running.

kind regards,
