Remote server software

By EPAIT ·
I have taken on the responsibility of our other offices Netware 4.11 server and GroupWise 5.5 server (Admin left.... their not going to replace him). Our offices are not connected by a WAN... but I need to access the other server console to perform various tasks. I have tried using an IP connection with PC ANYWHERE and Remote Admin to get to a desktop and run RCONSOLE from NWADMIN. This is very slow since we only have a DSL line (144K). Does anyone have any ideas how I can managed these otherservers remotely at a more efficient speed? I am working with different vendors to plan out a WAN, but need something until that gets implemented.

thanks,
Rob

Remote server software

Hi
I'm surprised PC anywhere wouldn't do the job over a 144K service. I am using it to manage several servers acros the world over modem bandwith and VPN (roud-trip times between 100 and 600 ms with only 4-5 K bandwith). I am managing NT servers, but this shouldn't be any different, since I'm using the CMD console ("DOS") for a lot of my operations, even at the server's console. Are you sure is configured properly? What version are you running? I have found out that patches released for pcAnywhere would make all the difference...There is also an option in the Application menu of the pcAw host, OPTIMIZE for DOS application (ver.9)...
Regards,
Radu

I am using pcanywhere from an 128K ISDN to a wireless t-1, and have no problems at all. I would look into your pcanywhere configuration. I don't think you need anything else, there is just something wrong with your set up???

Go to the AdRem website and download a copy of their secure rconsole software. it is free. It runs over IP and will connect directly to the server (if it is running IP and has rconsole server side up). It is muchn better for bandwidth as the screen updates are from the server console which are almost all text. You can also set a modem on each server with a dedicated phoneline. You can then run rconsole and dial into the other server. Have done this for years and it works great also.
