Is there a way that I could run a small program or a batch file that would power off\on my router and\or accomplish everything that unplugging and replugging-in the routers power cord would do. The reason I’m wondering is for one reason or another this is the proven to work solution that fixes my internet connection when the router is at fault. My router is downstairs by my parents room, and since I’m often up in the middle of the night I usually end up waking them up if I walk downstairs to reset the router. Also if anyone could explain (in fairly simple terms preferably) what all killing then restoring the routers power even does that would be just as appreciated as the prior item.
Specs:
NOTE: Computer B is the most preferable computer to be able to perform the pre-listed task, but if its impossible since its connected wirelessly or something it would be O.K. for computer A to perform the task.
Router: Netgear Rangemax N WNR834Bv2 with latest firmware updates set to run at max speed. Currently hardwired to Computer A, and wirelessly broadcasting to Computer B.
Computer A: ~4.5 year old junk e-machine running windows XP with SP2 off of a celeron processor (around 2GHZ if memory serves) 512mb RAM. Onboard Gigabit Ethernet port.
Computer B: ~3 Month old Acer Aspire M5630 running Windows Vista Home Edition with a Intel Core2 Duo processor (E4500) with 3gb of RAM. Netgear Rangemax Wireless N PCI adapter WN311B (specifically designed to work with the router.)
Sorry if I went overboard with specs but I wanted to be sure to include everything that seemed like it could be at all relevant. Thank you in advance for any replies even if they just say “You’re stupid this is impossible.”
