Removal of Desktop Icons in win98 setup

By mboyle ·
Has anyone been successful in removing Desktop icons using the Msbatch.inf file (Q239006) when doing a upgrade from windows 95 to win 98?. I have added the Microsoft recommended sctions to the inf file, but the MSN Icon and the Connect to the Internet icon still appear after I do the upgrade. any suggestions?

As these are defaults that are part of Win98, why not simply delete the Icons. They won't reappear unless you have to reinstall Win98 at some point.

We are looking to do a clean install and not have to delete these icons as a cleanup.
Thanks

to remove the desktop icon, go into the registry editor, and double click on the following folders in the following order: hkey_local_machine, Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Explorer, Desktop. Now delete all the entries you see on theright, and all your desktop items (except my computer) will be gone. If you dont want a certain one gone, dont delete it.

in www.regedit.com you'll find all you need and much more.
Don't get lost in there. I usually find myself reading several interesting items and forgetting what I actually came there for in the first place :)
