    Remove a domain Trust

    Locked

by tim marshall – houston ·

I inherited a network that has not been managed properly. On my DC’s I get 5719 errors relating to not being able to contact a DC from a Domain. The domain in question has a trust created to it but the domain was taken down but the trust was not broken first. When I try to remove the trust the Remove button is grayed out. How can I remove this trust? Thanks.

NETDOM.EXE from the Resource Kit can forcibly remove a trust from a domain controller.
For example, if you want to remove the trust to the domain DOMAIN2, then the syntax (I believe!) should be:

      netdom trust /D: DOMAIN2 /remove /force

You cando a NETDOM HELP TRUST to get all of the switches and parameters.

      hope this helps

        The syntax was
        netdom TRUST /d: /remove /force
        Thanks for your guidance.

Is this a Windows 2000 platform? I had the same issue two months ago. Here’s how I fixed it. I used the Netdom tool found in the \support\tools folder of the OS CD. Here’s the syntax to revoke a trust in a command prompt–> NETDOM TRUST trusting_domain_name /Domain:trusted_domain_name /Remove –> then press enter.
