Remove DNS numbers from w2k server

By ped ·
help, i installed an w2k server (application server only) local lan users can use shared drives but wan users can only see the drives but can not map to them.

i checked my i/p numbers and their all good BUT in the DNS setting the loop-back i/p istheir (127.0.0.1). i have no idea how it got their i tried removing it but it keeps showing up.

i think this is my problem.

i need to remove the DNS numbers and have it stay away.

thanks
peter

Remove DNS numbers from w2k server

you cannot remove the ip loopback address. a loopback device is a simulated TCP/IP adapter. if you do don't have a loopback device, you cannot run tcp/ip based software.

check if your wan users are connected to the network via a vpn. to map the share, you can use the net use command:
ex.

net use x: \\192.168.2.1\sharedfolder

hope this helps.

the previous answer discusses the IP loopback address. Howerver, I do believe you were talking about DNS. When you set static IPs on your machines, you have to put something in the DNS field. If you don't, then it will put the loopback address there. If you don't have a DNS server, I recommend just putting the IP address of that machine to use it as a 'dns server'.

hope that helps,
