Remove domain drop down login screen

By mmills023 ·
My situtation is this, i have a single forest multiple domain AD enviroment. I want to be able to remove the domain selection list from the windows xp workstations and force them to log on to thier respective domains. I do not want to use UPN logons.

Is there a way in a group policy or reg hack that i can remove the domain drop down, but also force that machine to logon to a certian domain?

I have found articles that tell me how to remove the domain drop down list, but it does not tell me how to force those workstatios to log into a certian domain, rather it wants you to use UPN logins which can not be used in this situation.

If UPN logins are not to be allowed, then your forest seriously needs a redesign.

If you create user accounts in each domain and domain local security groups only, you can accomplish your goals. Note that your admin overhead will be much larger as users will have multiple accounts to access resources in each domain.

Honestly, just throw out AD and go back to Windows NT 4.0, which is exactly why UPN's and GC's were modified from the Exchange 5.5 directory service.

This may sound oversimplified, but what about using the options button on the logon screen? Just put it on the domain you want after you build your domain list, and click the options button. It will lock it onto that domain and most users won't know for the better.

Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon registry subkey.
From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD value.
Enter a name of NoDomainUI and press Enter.
Double-click the new value and set it to 1. Click OK.
Reboot the machine.

Adding this key did't work

i tried this option
the options button is disabled but the problem is the default log on to: is the locally, no the domain.
if there is a way to make the default log on the domain , adding the registry key will be useful.
