I have a four-drive RAID 5 array running in a Compaq Proliant server with integrated SmartArray controller.
The array (4x18GB)It is way to big for what I need, so I would like to remove one of the drives and use it somewhere else.
It looks like the Compaq Array Configuration Utility will in fact let you remove a drive and reconfigure an array without destroying data on the volume. (There are only about 10 GB on the volume, so it there is more than enough space available.
Of course, Iwould never try this without doing a verified backup first, but has anyone ever used ACU to remove a drive from an array without blowing away the volume?
Thanks,
Joe
