you will boot your system to windows XP. when you are able to see the desktop, right click on the "my computer" icon to go to properties, Or if it does not show at your desktop, Go to start.. in the start menu, Right click "My computer" Go to 'properties'
Select the advanced tab, On the Startup and recovery, select settings... At the system startup section, Ensure the Default OS is set to Windows XP from the drop down menu. Uncheck the option for "Time to display list of OS" Click on the Edit button, .. In the notepad file that opens, find a line that contains [ WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" ] .. it should read something similar to this [ multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect ] If you are unable to see this line, I advise you to immediately close this window, but you should easily find it. This process is easy, relax and proceed. Incase you have been able to find it,as i supposes, select the line and delete it. Save the changes and then Quit. Select ok.. close the system properties window.
That shld successfully remove Win2k off your machine, You may also want to remove the Root folder of Win2k to conserve system space. Go to the partition where you had installed Win2k, look for the folder WINNT. Select it and delete it. There is nothing wrong with deleting it as long as you have done the above procedures right. Good luck, u can get back to me incase you need any similar assistance. cheers
Gentlemen, even though someone else asked you the Dual Boot question I tried it and it worked perfectly.I am new here and was helped right away.Thank you. :>
I did everything you said, but when I try to delete WINNT I get the following error:
Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delete Cache: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
Not sure how I can fix this. I tried switching it from read only, but still nothing.
