remove ftp tags set by leechers?

By fitzle ·
I had several ftp sites that were using anonymous access until I found people were trading divx through them.

I found several folders that when I try to delete I get the error: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk"

Howdo I delete the folders? The folders I would like to delete and are in .tmp directory.

Thanks for any tips.

The version and vendor of Unix you are running depends on what you can do about the ftp thing. But as far as deleting the directory try this. rm -ir /.tmp command. It will ask you if you want to del each directory and file. This command will workif you have special characters that can't be seen by the terminal. Also a few other things you can try is touch files with the same name in the same directory, then deleting them. This will overwrite them files giving them the source file to delete.

Hope this helped

Hi!. If it's any kind of Unix - reboot in Single User Mode (init S). In this mode you have almost network services stoped. Now try to remove this folders how it was described in #1 (rm -Rf <dirname&gt. Also you may need to unmount this file system and run "fsck" to check if it is filesystem errors. It should help.
In case of NT you should try same things: 1. Check filesystem for errors. 2. Stop IIS services (or whatever do you use). Try to delete files. 3. Check file permissons if it sets to something strange. Take Ownership over those files and try to remove it. 4. In case you still can't remove those files you can try to stop "Protected Storage" service (after stoping IIS service). After this you can remove whatever you want but after deleting reboot your machine ASAP. Last thing is - copy all files which are required to you to another partition/server and format this partition in "Disk Administrator".

Good luck,
