Remove NT4 BDC from W2K domain

By russellrl2 ·
I moved my PDC from a NT 4.0 domain to a W2K domain a while back. Now I would like to remove the NT 4.0 BDCs (2 of them). I don't need the NT 4.0 servers anymore and would like to retire them. How do I remove them from the W2K domain controller group so I can switch to native mode.

If u are having problems using dcpromo then try upromote. It costs about 100 dollars a server but it does the trick. We couldn not get dcpromo to work but this did. Below is the link:

hope this helps!

It sounds a bit long winded, but the cleanest (and safest) way I have found of doing this is to upgrade both to WIn2K, then use DCPROMO to demote them both. This is the cleanest, but most tedious method. The next best is to hack the schema of you win2Kdomain to remove them. There are TechNet articles that have instructions on doing this. Messing around in the schema is rather dangerous, so I would recommend the first method.
