    Remove parallel install of NT

    Locked

    by jeffhasenauer ·

I have a Windows NT 4.0 sp6a workstation. I’ve installed a parallel version of NT in order to fix some problems. My question is what are the steps for removing the parallel install without harming the original install.

I think all you need to do is delete the second NT folder and subfolders, and edit boot.ini to remove the reference to the second install.

We renamed the parallel install to something else and moved it to a different partition. We worked for a couple of weeks to ensure we weren’t going to mess anything up. Then deleted the directory with no other issues.

Unless you are pressed for hard-drive space, why remove it? Hide it, remove the reference in the boot.ini file. You have created a backup that you control for troubleshooting and repair. Your system went down once. Will it never happen again? You can even create an bootable floppy that starts NT from the backup installation. Something to think about… Ray

Unfortunately, HD space is an issue so we had to remove it. We renamed the parallel install to something else and moved it to a different partition. We worked for a couple of weeks to ensure we weren’t going to mess anything up. Then deleted the directory with no other issues.
