Remove Read Only From Folders

I am trying to install Age Of Empires Gold on my friends XP Machine however due to the folders being set default at Read Only, I am unable to do so. Is there anyone who can help me resolve this problem. I have tried changing the read-only option in the folder properties, and it shows fine until I go back into it to double check the change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
