Locked

Remove "Spyware Detected" wallpaper

By dcci ·
I have a friend that picked up a virus (I'm sure) that installed a wallpaper saying 'Spyware Detected', along with some instructions/invitations to do something more maliciously inviting. System is now protected and cleaned, but the wallpaper is locked. Can anyone help with a removal/unlock tool, or direct me to the correct registry settings?

Thanks.

I have seen that on the machines that I work on as well. I'm not sure if that's from Microsoft's spyware tool or from another spyware software. I forgot the name of it :-) go figure but was able to get it off after reinstalling spybot search and destroy as well adaware and running full scans. if you have any antivirus software i'm sure it will pick up some trojan that you can then delete. Hope it helps

Hi wuzzy:

Have already cleaned the system. This is some state left behind that has locked the desktop wallpaper.

Thanks anyway...

The computer is remote from me, and the end-user is not quite this savvy. Thanks for the information.

Find and download HitMan Pro 2. This software will surely remove it. I have used it with all my Spyware problems and it has removed all of them. This software will install every spyware removal program and runs them continuously.

I have heard of a spyware called spysheriff that causes this. do you have this on your system? if you do you either have to reinstall or go here for the solution. It is a little complicated but should work. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-72314.php

hi-
Not sure if this will work, but it can't hurt, and the proggie gets good reviews, go here and d/l unlocker, it's free.
You may have to start in safe mode if it doesn't work in normal mode.
