Removed second hard drive now C: drive is F:

I was going to have an internal 2nd hard drive to use for back up storage and decided to use external USB hard drive package instead. After I removed 2nd drive, my should be C: hard drive is now F: Disk Management won’t let me change it back, trying to do it got me the message that windows can’t do that. I am thinking about the Recovery Console and using R for repair. Before I try it, any ideas on whether it will work. Some of my software won’t recognize my hard drive because it sees the F:
