I have a problem with what I believe to be a Trojan on my computer. This was sent through me through an automated message in Windows live messenger and me, thinking it was a translation I had been waiting on clicked the link and then low and behold, an MS-DOS application was installed and then disappeared into my computer.
I immediately ran a virus scan (using AVG Free Edition) and instantly found a file in my System32/drive/etc called “hosts” and this file contained a list of web addresses and IP’s to match, only all the IPs were 1.1.1.1
I have managed to trick the whatever it is into thinking a file I created under the name is the same one it wants, but there is still the other half of the program that keep rewriting the file when it disappears when I reboot, also changing my file settings to hide hidden and system folders.
Is there anyone out there who can tell me what this file is and how to get rid of the other half? I have used AVG and Ad-Aware to try and find the other half with no luck.
Also, one more problem is that when I try to install a trojen killing program “Swatit” I get the MS-DOS error
“The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instrustion. CS:01co OP:63 68 65 2f 31”
if that helps at all. I will try to answer questions as I can.
