removing copy protected software

By brown4225 ·
I am trying to remove copy protected software from my windows xp machine.I do not want to delete the software because I am going to use it on another computer.I had originally moved the software from a windows98 machine.I had no problem moving the software between my windows98 machines but when I moved it to my xp machine it would not allow me remove it.When I use the utility to move the software it gives me the error "you cannot move to a non-master removable disk under windowsNT".Do you know of any sofware that i may be able use to move these files? Or if there is any way in windowsxp that i can move them.

What is the software? And are you an administrator for that computer or the network? Some software only lets you use it on one computer. It can be moved on older O/S but not on the new stuff. Contact the company that makes the software and see if it allows you to migrate it to newer O/S. If not you will have to buy the upgrade.

I don't know how feasible this may be for you, but are you able to link the destination computer to the one containing the software you wish to move?

The error states you cannot move it to a non-master removable disk - a connected computer would have a master non-removable disk (hard drive). Or could you try booting from an external drive, and moving the sofware to that, then connect the drive to the destination machine, and moving it to its final destination?

I've never had to do this, so forgive me if this seems daft...

Good luck
