Removing Desktop Icons

By yupitsamy ·
Is there a way I can remove "MY PC, MY Network Places & Recycle Bin" icons from my desktop? I'm using Windows 2000 with service pack 4.

If you want to remove ALL icons then open a group policy snap-in and go to User config/admin templates/desktop. Enable the hide all icons on desktop policy. It is explained as follows.

"Removes icons, shortcuts, and other default and user-defined items from the desktop, including Briefcase, Recycle Bin, My Computer, and My Network Places.

Removing icons and shortcuts does not prevent the user from using another method to start the programs or opening the items they represent."

Remember if you set it as the local policy it will affect all users.

You can also hide the My documents and My Network Places icons and remove the IE icon seperately here.
