Removing Office 97

By daniel ·
I am trying to remove Office 97 from a Windows 2000 Professional workstation; when I go to Add/Remove Programs through Control Panel and select Office 97, it starts to go through the install process. There is no selection for deinstalling the program. I've tried inserting the CD to remove Office 97 but it doesn't work either.

To Uninstall Microsoft Office 97:

Click on the Start button
Click on Settings
Click on Control Panel
Double click on add/remove programs
Select Microsoft Office 97*
Click on the add/remove button
A window will ask you to insert the Microsoft Office 97 CD-ROM and begin the removal process.

By the way, I seem to recall (but can't find the particulars) that there could be a problem uninstalling Office 97 when there is a concurrent installation of Internet Explorer.(The exact version of I.E. escapes me.) The reason for this is some shared files that may have been corrupted.

The fix was to just do a refresh installation of Office from the CD. Select the option that replaces missing or damaged files.

After that "fresh" installation, the uninstall will work as designed.
(Strange, but true.)

I hope this works for you.

Maxwell
