removing winNT

By stomp34 ·
I have a Dell Lattitude cpi. I tried to remove NT and its partitions. Now I cant boot to dos and the machine wont even recognize the hard drive. I think the boot sector on the drive is missing. I boot up and I get no fixed disks present. If the boot sector is missing is there any way to replace it? thanks Steve Mayers

Get a boot disk, boot up and run

fdisk /mbr

then take out the floppy and restart.

If that doesn't allow you to boot, you're going to have to rebuild your drive from scratch.

first boot to a floppy with fdisk on it, then create a fat32 partition (assuming you are installing windows9x or me or 2000 or xp), make sure the new partition is set as ACTIVE (can't boot drive if its not ACTIVE), reboot computer with the floppy and FORMAT the hard drive. operating systems won't see the drive if its not formatted. SYS the drive and remove the floppy. reboot. if it still won't boot, put floppy back in and reboot and type fdisk/mbr
