Rename Network Drives

We have a win2000 server – users have win2K on desktops as well as several older 98 machines. On the 98 Machines – is there a tool available to rename the drive so its easier to read?
For example

\\server\data\users\jondoe\ becomes just g:\johndoe ?

We found a scripting tool that fixes it on 2000 machines but it does not work for 98. Any ideas??
