I’m thinking of renaming the default administrator account to something else. Is there any case that renaming the Administrator account could give Exchange a problem? If there is, how to work around the problem?

Only an issue if didn’t create a seperate service account for exchange and you used the local admin to install exchange. If so, when you rename the admin account make sure that in the services applet you assign the appropriate name for the servicesto start under. Also make sure you check any overide accounts and make sure they are correct also.

You might also want to check if you are using the default Administrator as the Permissions Admin for Exchange.
If you do have not done so already, in the Exchnage Admin program, go to Tools –> Options… and select the Permissions Tab. Ensure that “Show Permissions for all objects” and “Display rights for roles on Permissions page” are selected.
Then make sure that the right account is assigned the role of Permissions Admin at the Organization, Site, and Server levels.
