Rename the root domain name

by cgconsult . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

Hi all,

Several week ago we upgraded a client from NT4 to Windows 2000 server environment.
We created a DNS server on a fresh Windows2000 and new member server. We used a PDC to perform the Windows 2000 installation (upgrade). We installed advanced server(mixed mode) and created an AD. To have a backup procedure available we hade one BDC ready offline. Here is the problem:
The client changed his company name in the meanwhile. Sadly for us the old company?s name ?OLDName? served as a Primary Root Name. Ex.: OLDName.com
Now we want to change it in to the new company name. Ex.: NEWName.com without to have to start the installation procedure from the beginning on.
Because we have still a mixed environment and also have the old BDC with is synchronized with the DC
Can we change this primary root name to reflect the new company?s name just by renaming the Forest or do we have to change the DNS record.
Thx
Christian
