Renaming a Critical Folder

By Able-Admin ·
I have a folder called "save data here!"

ie. \\computerone\D\save data here!

Just about every user on the network either has a shortcut to this folder or has it mapped to a network drive.

is it possible to rename this folder with a more friendly name without the spaces and punctuation without everyone on the network losing the connection?

This folder is also a current DFS root with its own root replica called "SDH_backup".

Renaming a Critical Folder

I would send out an email informing everyone that the server will be offline for 5 min. Then rename the folder and also make the change in DFS. If you have a script that maps that drive to every user, you'll need to make that change there as well. If not, then the users will have to do it manually. Do this during off-peak hours.
