Renaming a server running IIS

By christopher.p.duffey ·
Can anyone point me to some documentation stating any side affects of renaming an NT 4.0 server running IIS 4.0? Example are there hidden issues in the metabase or within built in user accounts that IIS uses?

You will have to remove IIS 4.0 from the server (the directory structure will remain untouched)
Perform the Server name change, and then reinstall IIS 4.0 again, and add S.P.'s
re-asign special trustees to pages.
(have a good backup near!!!)

I have done this a few times before and the only problem that I came up with was an error finding the old server when I started up MMC. This was easily rectified by deleting the icon for the old "server" (name) and connecting to the new servername Apart from this I had no other problem with user accounts etc. But a backup would never hurt since you never really know.
