Renaming a Windows 2000 domain

By amatiz ·
I need to know if there?s a way to rename a Windows 2000 domain without formatting and reinstalling everything. I?ve read some suggestions about uninstalling AD services and reinstalling them, importing and exporting the profiles to the new machine with the new name and so on, but I need some specifical advice on how to do this without destroying everything. Also, If anybody knows about this procedure with Exchange 2000 installed, I?ll be glad to hear how to do it.

Thanks.

Well, there is no solution to your problem. To my knowledge the only way to rename a domain is to demote it (Remove AD). And that would mess it up for existing clients. And Exchange requires AD for it to work, so no there is no way to do it. I have heard, that it is supposed to be supported in future versions of Windows.
