Can/how do I rename a workstation on our Domain?

Before you start the renaming, you need to make sure you know the administrator password for the local machine, and you have a user account with Domain Admin permissions. You must have administrative rights to do this.
1. Go to properties of Network Neighborhood.
2. Click on change.
3. Click on Workgroup, which removes the computer from the domain.
4. Click okay and reboot the workstation as prompted.
5. Logon as the administrator.
6. Go to properties of Network Neighborhood.
7. Click on change.
8. Change the name of the workstation.
9. Click okay and reboot the workstation as prompted.
10. Once again, logon as the administrator.
11. Go to properties of Network Neighborhood, and click on change.
12. Click on domainand type in your domain name.
13. Click on the box to add a computer name to the domain.
14. Put in a user name and password that has “Domain Admin” permissions.
15. Click okay, it takes a finite amount of time to add you to the domain, once it welcomes you, click okay, and reboot as prompted.

You are now finished. Make sure to delete the old name from the domain in server manager. Any questions, feel free to email me.

First go to server manager (for NT 4) or active directory users and computer (W2K) and create a new copmuter account and v\give it the name that you will be giving to the workstation. Then go to the workstation right click network neighborhood, click properties, and on the Identification tab click the change button and then just type in the new name.
