I'm sure that there's a way to do this through scripting, or some other utility. You might want to look at VNC which will allow you to see and control all computers on your network. http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
My company uses this program, and we'd be lost without it.

Yes, with SMS & Svrmgr do the following, as a remote admin I do this all the time.

Remote Rename Procedure:
1. Create account's on dom. w/svrmgr, closeit
2. Sms Remote into box
3. Close all aps, log out & login as yourself (admin account NOTE Local to BOX!!)
4. Right Click on Network Neighborhood & go to properties.
5. Change to workgroup
6. Do not exit, DO NOT REBOOT HERE, Do not drop or change ip.
7. Click change & change it to the name you created on svrmgr
8. run a Shutgui from Ntreskit , kill all aps
9. Machine will reboot onto the network.

These are the instructions I gave & distb. to my entire remote group, we use these on a daily basis and they work well.

if you are wanting to do this via a script, try doing a script using the Soon command , Net Dom & rclient from the reskit.

rsetup \\oldmachine name
rclient into machine once this is done using /l:domain\adminid(network admiN)

try using Netdom to do the change.
However there are some things I would rather not script, the

However there are some things I would rather not script, the concept of 500 machines, if only 10% failed, that would be alot of clean-up. I would do it via sms (or remote mode of your choice -whatever your company uses to do remote admin.) However if you do not use anything, there are good ones out there, TimbuckTu, SMS 2.0 (w/SP2), and a few others. However, for this type of action I would use one of the two I named above- Good Luck- Al
