Renaming the Administrator Account

By fjaramillo ·
I would like to know what ramifications renaming the administrator account will have on a Windows 200 Active Directory Network. Does someone have a checklist ?

Thank you
Fernando

Thanks
Nando

Really no ramifications unless you are using that account for services or web applications.

I also have not had any problems after renaming the Administrator account. I believe that even if you used the Administrator account to run a Service (on the Log On tab), that setting this with "Administrator" then changing it to something else, that the Service would continue to work. The SID for the Administrator, of course, does not change when you change the name. And I think it is the SID that Services use when determining under what account to run as.
So, the whole point of this is that I think that Services would be OK.
As for Scheduled Jobs, those I do NOT think would survive an account name change! Nor, of course, would a BAT file that had the Administrator account in it (perhaps in a NET USE command to map a drive to a share that only the Administrator could access) work after the name change. Both of those would fail.
But other then that, should be smooth sailing. NTFS Security permissions have no problems with the name change. Group Policy settings should be good too.
hope this helps
