Repairing a Virtual PC 6 Corrupt Disk Image

By techrepublic ·
We had a crash on Virtual PC for the Mac (v6) and now the disk
image (.vhdp) appears to be corrupt. We try to mount it using
the virtual PC setting option and it fails. If we try to start up
from the VPC it fails in Windows with a 'fatal error'

Does anyone know of any other way to mount this disk image or
to repair the corrputed image? DU does not recognise it.

You can boot the VPC from a Windows installer CD-ROM--or an
image file from an installer CD--attach the vhdp package, and
attempt to restore from the console. You can use DU to create
the image file. Sometimes it works, but honestly most of the
time if the corruption has gotten that far, the prognosis is not
good for making the image bootable again.

The actual image file is inside the package and has the
extension "vhd". You can try renaming a copy of that with an
"iso" name extension and see if DU or Toast will mount it on the
desktop in an effort to recover documents.
