I have a Dell PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller 3/DC system set up on a RAID level 5. It has crashed repeatedly. This is happening to all the machines in my department. We have five of them. Its been set up a number of different ways to see if the levels were causing the machine to crash. The os is XP. Instead of calling dell again and them having no idea I thought I would trouble shoot this on my own. I’m having a hard time figuring out where to start. I need to know where to start and what to look for. I also need to know do other softwares cause issues. Like Norton System works causing it to get hosed? Do I need to Optimize the hard drives using Norton so it doesn’t screw up the RAID 5 level? Like I said I’m lost. I read the stuff found here about what a RAID is and what it does.
