Replace a failed dynamic disk in Raid 1

By hwa-1 ·
I have a system running Server 2000. One of the SCSI drives has failed and I have purchased another to replace it. The system is using the WIN 2K dynamic disk feature to maintain a RAID 1. What is the correct procedure to rebuild this array after installing the new drive. I don't want to lose the data on the working disk during the reinitialization of the RAID 1. Some books say to break the mirror and others do not. Proper procedure here, please.

The answer to your problem all revolves around the type of RAID Controller that you have.

If it is the Promise Technology Type it will just rebuild the array when it is formatted up but if you have one of the new Intel Chip Sets the above link to MS Knowledge Base would most likely be your best bet.
