I have a monitor that appears to have a loose connection where the data cable goes into the machine, causing a short that makes the monitor shut down. The cable in question is not removeable. I have some IT experience with PC repair, and use a grounding mat when doing so. But, I have no experiance with monitors, and have been told it is dangerous to open the monitor. Can this be done safely to check any connections inside that may be loose? And if so, what should I look out for? Is it possible to install a new cable? The monitor in question is an e-machine svga.
