Research of information sources about ERP's

By xavi novella ·
Hello all,
BACKGROUN I work for a medium-size company (about 20 employees and 5- 10 Mill.EUR revenue) which started as an Engineering Firma designing

Electronic products (the whole product from HW and SW until manufacture and packaging), now the trend is to go further from B2B to B2C and enter in

mass market of electronic products (the manufacturing of the products is outsourced and off-shored though). By now our revenues regarding electronic

design and development for third parties is about 20%, while selling our own products gives us the 80%.

GOAL: I'm gathering info about ERP's, in order to know well the state-of-the-art of the ERP market and special focus on the ERP's used in my business.

Concreteley I'm very interested in:
1) Where do I find contrasted and INDEPENDENT benchmarking information or sources of information to get close to this market (like blogs, this or

other discussion forums, published doc's, others)
2) Your comments about:
- Which parts/areas of my company MUST be managed with an ERP tool, and which parts/areas woul be a NICE TO HAVE, and what areas/processes suppose

rather a cost than a benefit compared to a well-defined 'manual' procedure (f.i. the finance area is a clear candidate to be supported by an ERP, just

like SCM, but on the other hand if the project management part takes a 20% of our budget maybe with MS-project and a well-defined procedure to

classify our documents and project infos would be enough).
- Personal experiences of ERP's in the electronic design and manufacture sector.
- Trend of SaaS (Software as a Service) vs. local applications.
- Cappabilities of evolution of the ERP in accordance with the company growth (modular contracts, enhancement possibilities, etc).

I've not talked about price, but actually it's assumed that all can be done with money, for my questions are oriented to competitive price tools.

I know that the posted issue is very long, I've read quite a lot on the web and I just wanted to go a little bit in detail and classify the points.
I Thank you very much your comments and answers in advance! Thanks a lot!
