Researching salary ranges for a Software Trainer / Customer Support job.

By brobins25 ·
Hello all, I am a recently retired Chief Information System Technician. Chief as in retired from active duty from the US Navy. I am persuing a job opportunity as a Software Trainer / Customer Support Specialist with a company in Greensboro NC. Having been in the Navy for 20 years, I am unsure what would be an acceptable salary for this type of position. Any thoughts along this line would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Depends on location

Largely dependent on specific area. Major metropolitan areas often have higher cost-of-living, and higher demand for skilled people, so the salary is usually higher.

More rural areas tend to have lower cost of living, and lower demand, so salaries are often lower.

Once you know where you want to go, call the labor department in that area and ask about "prevailing wage" or "fair wage". Government subcontractors are usually required to pay prevailing wages, so it's a number they should have available, for the asking.

And thank-you for your service to our country, Chief.
