Hello,
I am unable to recreate/reset the “documents” folder in vista. I had previously moved my documents to an auxiliary drive–which subsequently failed on me. Now I need to recreate these folders without that drive.
Basically, I have no way to reset the location of the documents folder (since its completely gone) and all the documents start menu links are broken, and I do not have folders for music, photos, etc. (meaning that everything from itunes to picasa to games will not work properly)
I found the below description on another tech blog, but it has not worked for me. Is there another way to reset my documents to default without performing a full reinstall of vista? Or is there a step I might have missed in this?

“[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]
In the right-hand pane, edit the value named ‘Personal’, changing its data
to: ‘%USERPROFILE%\Documents’
Open the ‘Run…’ dialog via the Start Menu or
rundll32 mydocs,PerUserInit
That should recreate the folder, special icon & all.”

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 6001) I typically get “error 1601” when i try to install or load a program which relies upon my documents.
It might also be important to note that: (1)Windows has reassigned my CD-RW to the letter where the old drive existed and (2) I have manually recreated many of these folders for temporary use–could that interfere with a reset?
Thanks in advance! This seems like it should be a relatively simple process… I just cant figure out what registry changes to make.
