resolution problem running open suse 11.0 in virtual box

By FC-T. ·
I'm relatively new to Linux but I'm fairly comfortable when it comes to changing settings.

My problem is I'm trying to run Linux in a virtual environment Sun's vBox in particular after a standard install I'm left with an 800x600 size screen I'm running the host(XP pro) on a wide screen laptop with a res of 1280x800.
the options presented to me in sax11 do not offer the 1280x800 res is there any way to fix this I'd like very much to learn Linux but i just can't get beyond the "black bars" on the side.
thanks,

what video chipset?

by robo_dev In reply to resolution problem runnin ...

The resolution is determined by which video chipset is being used.

For example if the driver is for a generic Intel i810 and you've got an Intel 965GM chipset, the driver can only do what it thinks the chipset supports.

Therefore, the first step is to determine what video graphics chip you have, then figure out if there is a vbox specific driver for it.
