i have installed linux in an old m/c. The monitor resolution it seems is out of sync because theframes and characters are too big and unreadable. how can i change the resolution now?

in another machine i have choosen default login screen of GNOME, how can i convert it to KDE now?

So you should reconfigure X. At the command prompt type xf86config and follow the instructions. You may have to test several different frequencies if you do not know the h-sync and v-sync of your monitor.
