Resource Checkout

We have started a service where we have laptops and projectors available for checkout to users within the organization. We are currently using a calendar in our email client to manage the resources. This worked well when we only had two of each, but due to the success and popularity of the service the number of devices has grown considerably and managing these devices has become more difficult. We need to have a way to know when the devices are available and when they will not that is not as cumbersome as checking a caledar that has multiple devices scheduled to be out and the ability to plan ahead has become impossible with our current procedures. Does anyone have a service similar to this and how do you manage it?
