Resources

By ottermill ·
I have read that is possible to create resources within Exchange so that when an Outlook user schedules a meeting they can check to see if the resource (such as a meeting room) is available, if it is the Resource will be booked and others can then see the room/resource is in use

Does anyone know how to set this up/configure it in Exchange 2000?

I know how to do it under Conferencing Server but dont have this onsite and have no inclination to purchase it

All help will be very much appreciated

It's easy. You can find more details in:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=196534

In short, what you have to do is:
1. Create e-mail account for resource (say RoomX)
2. Log to this new e-mail account and set permissions on Calendar so that persons who will use resource scheduling on RoomX are assigned a role of Author.
3. Log off from RoomX and logon to your own e-mail account.
4. In Outlook 2000/XP use File/Open/Other Users Folder. Open Calendar Folder of RoomX.
You may now see booking info and book this resource etc.

To use this feature, you must:
1. Have Exchange Server
2. Clients must use Outlook 2000/XP configured for Corporate/Workgroup access (i.e. NOT Internet mail option).
