Resources for designing a network from the ground up?

By microbe25 ·
Does anyone know of some good resources on the Internet stepping you through the process of how to build a network from the ground up? I kind of figure you will start with designing a physical topology... but the whole process is daunting. Any advice? Thanks.

Designing network infrastructure isn't something that an IT person does themselves. It's usually done with many different people providing imput on what the information technology needs are [which includes security].

Once you know the needs of the user will be for information technology, then you can determine the best desgin that will provide those who use the network what they need to do their work [of course within budget constraints].

All designs go through changes until the one that provides all requirements including cost are met.
