While not every area of consulting requires consultants to be on call, there are plenty of contracts where consultants are on retainer. Although this doesn’t preclude one from taking other jobs, what happens when you have to respond to one client’s call and you’re working on one already? What kind of response time do you have in your contract or SLA? Do you agree to meet them at their place of business within 24 hours, or do you agree to try and remedy the problem over the telephone first? Tellus what works best and what doesn’t.
